Crossing

Crossing, my first novel, was published in 1998 and was selected as one of the ten best books by a writer of color in 1999 by the PEN American Center. In the story, Luis Lomos, a sixteen-year old boy, decides to undertake a dangerous trip from Mexico to the United States. Smuggled aboard a locked railroad car with twelve other men, Luis soon realizes that this will become a life and death struggle as the water vanishes and a real-life devil makes himself known.
